Application Checklist
Required

Completed application ( submitted via email ).
Official transcript with GPA.
Personal essay (500–750 words).
Two letters of recommendation (teacher, mentor, employer, or community leader).
Community service letter (at least one).
Resume (required for undergraduate/graduate applicants).
Category-specific materials (portfolio, media sample, service evidence, etc.).

Eligibility Requirements

• Resident of Mobile County or surrounding Gulf Coast communities
• High school senior or currently enrolled undergraduate student
• Minimum GPA of 2.75
• Official transcript required
• Leadership, community involvement, and commitment to growth

Scholarship Categories 4 Opportunities

1) Southern Soul Legacy Scholarship (Music & Performing Arts)

For students pursuing a degree or career in music, performing arts, or visual arts. Submit a 5-minute video or portfolio showcasing your talent.

4) Distinguished Scholars Award (Academic Excellence)

For high-achieving students demonstrating academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to service. Submit all required materials.

2) Linda Showers Service Award (Community Outreach & Volunteerism)

For students actively involved in community projects, nonprofit work, or volunteer initiatives. Provide evidence of impact and service hours.

4) Distinguished Scholars Award (Academic Excellence)

For high-achieving students demonstrating academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to service. Submit all required materials.

3) Mel Showers Media & Communications Award

For students studying journalism, communications, or digital media. Submit a sample article, video, or campaign related to culture or community.
